If I workout first thing in the morning I may just have a drink of water and/or a small piece of fruit.
When working out in the afternoon I may have a piece of whole grain toast with peanut butter and sliced banana.
For post workout I may have a protein shake or smoothie or a nutrient dense meal.
This is so important for me, being that finding post workout snacks have been difficult . Similar to your experience , I’ll go for a banana before the workout …. But post workout is dependent on my environment. I’ll go for a smoothie … but not every neighborhood has smoothie spots that are accessible… if that’s the case, I’ll grab a energy bar. And water is important every second of the day for me lol I have water by my bed lol
